5150: Star Navy available now!

Hooray!  5150: Star Navy, the spaceship combat game I helped write is finally for sale.  Go to the Two Hour Wargames site to look for it (and to check out all the other great games THW sells), or go directly to the Star Navy product page to buy it, in either the print or the electronic version.
My thanks again to Ed the THW Guy, who asked me to participate in this project last year.  I had a great time brainstorming, playtesting, writing and editing Star Navy with Ed.  OK, the editing part wasn't exactly pleasant, but I'm very pleased with the end product.

If you end up playing a starship battle using these rules, let me know how it goes.

  1. Very cool. Next time you have a project that needs editing, let me know. I've done a bit of that for other games, and I work pretty cheap.

  2. You're a gaming celebrity now! Can I get you to autograph my copy next time we get a chance to play?

I do have a question about shooting, where is the appropriate place to post it?

  4. Thanks, Esq. You should let Ed know about your services, since he's the publisher.

Maj. D.A., I'll be happy to deface your rulebook when we get together to play. :) We just need to figure out a time and place.

Maj. G, you can ask your question here or go to the Yahoogroups mailing list (the link is on page 1 of the rulebook).

  5. Thanks DS,

BTW- I live just over in Cypress.

Anyway, thanks for taking my question.

Do shields block hits from Guns from each individual attacking ship, or does each shield block a gun hit across a player turn.

For example, if I have 27 Cruisers with 4 Guns each Vs. a single BB with 4 Shields, in the first case it is impossible for the 27 Cruisers to damage the BB, in the second case, the first Cruiser will have its hits negated, but (assuming it hits 4 times) gun hits from Cruisers 2-27 with get through.

...or is it some other way that I missed?

    Thanks,
    Maj G

  6. Although Ed answered your question on the mailing list, I'll post an answer here for readers who might come across this in the future.

Shields are fully effective against each attacking ship. So your battleship with 4 shields would block all 4 guns that hit from the first cruiser, all 4 guns from the second cruiser, and so on -- all the way to the 27th cruiser. That's why you want to make sure you have some missile capability in your force, as missiles aren't affected by shields.
