That's me on the right, playing Hot Wheels with all the other "grownups." |
I took the blue armored vehicle with the big gun on top. I like the fact that the rules encourage you to name your car and your driver, so I christened the vehicle as the Over Bearing. Another player took the Scooby Doo van. I'm told that for some reason, that vehicle is always the first one that the other players shoot at in these games, no matter who plays it.
I didn't do so well this game. I tried to ram a vehicle, and took enough damage that I had to roll for each component to see if it was destroyed. Of course, I made all my rolls except for one--the driver. That ended the game for (and the life of) driver Thrash Nordstrom, but it was a fun time.
I'm getting involved in Car Wars again. And I bought a copy of Dark Future at Historicon.

Axles & Alloys was pretty fun. I enjoyed it that day. I liked it so much I retasked & renamed Terra Burning, to focus on Axles & Alloys, along with other Auto Combat games(i.e.;Car Wars, Outrider, Dark Future, et. al.). You can see he blog here:

I'm working on some car conversions right now, but maybe we can play some Axles & Alloys soon.
I've never played Axles & Alloys, or Full Thrust for that matter, but I've heard it's fun.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think of it compared to Car Wars?
Tom, I haven't played Car Wars in more than two decades, but I'm pretty sure Axles & Alloys is a lot simpler and faster-playing.
