Hovertrucks are indeed a target/objective, but GEV-PCs are, in my opinion, one of the most underrated vehicles in the game. I always take a bunch, and invariably my infantry over-performs beyond what the point cost would imply.
I tend to stay away from scenarios in the books. I either do straight point-value games (each side has the same number of points' worth of troops) or my own objective scenarios. The objective scenarios are, frankly, more of an excuse to show off models I get in or close to 1:300 scale, like submarines or rockets on gantries and the like. Here's a report on one I ran at a con a few years ago...

I remember that scenario! Impressive model. I like to run asymmetrical battles with different (sometimes hidden) objectives for each side.
