Look what I found

I saw this box last month at Half-Price Books, but I passed on it at the time since it's missing the rulebook. But when I was back in that store this week, it was still there, so I grabbed it.
"It" being the Empire of the Petal Throne boxed set from TSR. It contains three maps: one of the city of Jakalla, and two parts that cover the land of Tékumel itself. The material for the maps is high-quality, almost vinyl, substance. Like I said, the box was missing the rulebook and record sheets that came with it originally, but I'm enjoying the art.

Holy mole. Even without the rulebook the box and maps alone must be worth a great deal more than what you paid. The Jakalla map is a beauty isn't it?

It is some great art, especially the box lid. And that city looks great for adventuring.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find any EPT boxed sets on ebay to compare, so I have no idea what my find might be worth.

The box cover art is from Barker himself and shows a symbolic map of the capital city Bey Su (I think). The box sets run $180-200 though I've never seen them sold without the book.

Does HPB carry used books? Or was this new old stock from some warehouse?

Never mind my question; I see the website carries used stuff from many sellers.

Alec, Half-Price is a chain of stores that offers mostly used merchandise, including the occasional old-school gaming score. I've found classic TSR modules and even miniatures at their stores.

I saw it there on my last two visits and almost picked it up, but I'm just not a huge fan of EPT. I'm glad it went home with someone who would appreciate it more than I.

You can pick up a pdf of the rules on the rpgnow/dirvethrurpg website for $11 (one dollar over the $10 I paid for my copy of rules about 40 years ago). Of course, you could alternately pick up the new "Bethorm: the Plane of Tekumel RPG" by Jeff Dee which available on lulu at the UNIgames store front (however, it's a bit more that $11).
